Imee Marcos was born as Imelda Corazon Cojuangco in Ilocos Norte on February 27, 1938. She is the youngest child of former Philippine President and dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his first wife, Imelda Romualdez.

Imee grew up with privilege in the shadow of her father who ruled the Philippines with an iron fist for more than 20 years. Her mother was often at her father’s side, serving as First Lady, Vice President and presidential candidate. Imee married Senator Aquilino Pimentel III in 1968 and they had two daughters, Imee and Irene.

After her father’s ouster in a popular movement in 1986, Imee and her family went into exile in Hawaii where they lived until 1991 when they returned to the Philippines to face trial for human rights abuses committed during her father’s rule. They were eventually acquitted of all charges.

Today, Imee is a political activist who has worked for human rights causes and women’s empowerment. She currently resides in the United States.
